Executive Bios

Devon Schatz

Hi my name is Devon. I am in my 5th year (seriously) of the specialization program. I got into chemistry because I knew I wanted to discover new things that might make the world a better place, cheesy I know. Also, the math involved with physics was too hard. I got involved with the CSA to network/make friends with other students and faculty, which has worked out wonderfully and I have a great section in my resume because of it. I have worked for Dr. Rivard, am currently doing 403 with Dr. West, and have also TA'd 261/263, so if you want the inside track on their classes, come see me!

Nicole Jankovic

Oh howdy there. I am Nicole Jankovic! I am currently in my third year of general sciences with a major in chemistry and minor in biological sciences. My interest in chemistry started in high school and only grew once I started taking university level chemistry courses. I was involved with the CSA last year as VP Student Life and am honoured to be co-president this year with Devon! The reason I got involved was to increase my knowledge about campus life and expand on my skills in working with professionals. I had the privilege of being granted a scholarship over the summer with my work with Dr. Serpe and am currently working as a volunteer in the lab during the academic year. Stop on by if you just want someone to talk to - I've been told I'm a great listener.

Jose Rodriguez

I was born in Quito, a beautiful city in the heart of Ecuador. I grew up there until the age of fourteen, when I decided to move to Canada for my education. I am now in my third year of the Chemistry Specialization program. I decided to join the CSA to be more involved with the department, and to know the Chemistry community at the University better. Chemistry is my true love and passion, as I have always been intrigued by chemical reactions and how a compound can be made from other reagents through synthesis. I believe that my optimism and euphoria will help the environment in the CSA, since a good attitude will help all of us enjoy our time together. Besides chemistry, I like playing the piano, spending time with friends and family, watching soccer, eating chicken (particularly KFC), and I have an obsession with Dachshunds.

Brian Beck

I'm Brian and I'm in my 4th year of the BSc General program with a double major in chemistry and biological sciences. I joined the CSA because I wanted to become more involved in the UoA community and it seemed like the perfect group to join. My focus is currently on chemical and environmental courses in hopes of entering a related field within the oil and gas industry. The earth we live in is a precious place and my aspiration is to create a more sustainable world through improvements in lifestyle and technology. Other than that I enjoy snowboarding, videogames, cooking, music, and dodgeball (of course). Even though this is a chemistry association, I'm also still a biosci major so feel free to drop by and ask if you have any general questions regarding either subjects (not tutoring ya, sorry).
