CSA Professor of the Year Award

Since the 2010-11 academic year, the Chemistry Students' Association has held a student-wide vote for their favourite chemistry professor or instructor in the Department of Chemistry. The award was established to promote and encourage teaching excellence among Chemistry Faculty Members. The award recognizes those who continuously work hard to enrich undergraduate students' learning experiences. 

2022-23 

Dr. Ran Zhao

Dr. Ran Zhao is currently an Assistant Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Alberta. He completed his PhD at the University of Toronto and worked as an NSERC postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology. In 2022-23, Dr. Zhao taught CHEM 305: Environmental Chemistry II which was a well enjoyed course by his students. Students describe Dr. Zhao to be an approachable, kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful professor with a strong passion in sharing his knowledge of environmental and atmospheric chemistry. 

2021-22 

Dr. Tina Grant

Dr. Tina Grant is an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. She previously completed her PhD at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Fred West. Dr. Grant teaches a variety of organic chemistry courses at the undergraduate and graduate level (CHEM 263/361/461/561). Dr. Grant is an enthusiastic professor who is able to present challenging organic chemistry concepts in a simplified manner and demonstrates a strong mastery in organic chemistry.
