P. Brody Smith

Hello, Bonjour, Tawnshi! My name is Brody. I’m a fifth-year Chemistry student with an embedded certificate in sustainability as well as Aboriginal governance & partnership. I was Vice President External last year for the CSA and am honoured to be Co-President this year with Nicole. My academic interests are in governance, environmental chemistry & toxicology. Outside of university, I like to run, play games and cook. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me anytime!

Why did the hipster chemist get burnt? (Hover your mouse over my photo for the answer!)

Nicole Buenviaje

Hello everyone! My name is Nicole I am one of the Co-Presidents this year. I'm a 4th-year chemistry major with biological sciences minor. My research interests include organic chemistry applications into biological systems and (bio)analytical chemistry. If I'm not cooped up in the office studying, I'm probably too busy laughing at memes and watching Netflix. On my free time, I like to play guitar and piano, do some sketches or paint. If you see me roaming around the chem building don't be shy to say hi and, if you ever have any question about CSA or anything chemistry related, please feel free to drop by during office hours or send us an email!

Vice President Administration

Michael Gong

Hi everyone! My name is Michael and I am the VP Administration for the Chemistry Students' Association! This is my last year here studying at University of Alberta, I am currently enrolled in chemistry and will be graduating this winter! I joined the CSA during my last year to finish off my university life and it’s been wonderful. You meet new people and have a personalized office to study in. Also, everyone in the CSA is chemistry related, meaning they will probably be in your classes. Everyone helps each other succeed because we all understand that chemistry is not always straightforward. Like attracts like, therefore we should all stick together and form a community to become the best we can! Good luck in your upcoming exams and remember, think like a proton, always positive!

Jonah Curl

Hey, whadda ya at? I’m Jonah the VP Financial for the CSA, I am in my 5 th and final year of a BSc Honours Chemistry program and I hail from Newfoundland, Canada. I started in the CSA this year because I love meeting new people and helping those around me, I have taken many opportunities to further my education at UofA including various research projects with the Serpe Group, the Hall Group and now the Williams Group. I have also completed two internships the first in Edmonton with Gilead Alberta and the second in Brisbane, Australia where I also got to experience their culture and see their gorgeous country. If you have questions about opportunities such as these feel free to contact me or better yet come into the CSA office and ask me, but I warn you I might not shut up about it.

Take it easy b’ys!

Vice President External

Kara Meginbir

Hey everyone! My name is Kara and I am VP External of the Chemistry Students’ Association. This is my first year with the CSA and it has been great! I have been able to meet wonderful people both in the CSA and in the Department of Chemistry. I am in my second year of a BSc Chemistry Specialization and being part of the CSA has made this year so rewarding. As a side note… If you ever feel in the mood to hear a chemistry joke you should know that I have a solid repertoire and pretty much live in our office so feel free to stop by!

Minh Tang

Hello everyone! My name is Minh Tang and I am the VP Internal for the Chemistry Students’ Association! I am currently in my 3rd year B.Sc Honours in Chemistry and my journey with it has been spectacular so far. I joined the CSA in 2017 as VP External for a year, then switched to VP Internal on April 2018, marking my 2nd year working for CSA. As much as I want to tell you about how great CSA is in terms of an association, my bio has to be kept short and concise. Therefore, if you guys want to come to the office to know more or just chilling around (or studying for exams, that might be the fun part!), I will be in the office for most of the time. Please don’t hesitate and join us on this fun journey together!!!

Best regards,
Minh

Vice President Student Life

Sang Hoang

Hello everybody, xin chào! My name is Sang and I am the VP Student Life of the Chemistry Students’ Association! As you can see, I am a Vietnamese student along with my friend Minh Tang (the VP Internal). This is my second year in Chemical Engineering. I joined the CSA with the intention to meet more friends and enjoy my uni life. To be honest, this is and will always be my right choice. We have lots of super cool people all in the chemistry field to help each other out. We also own a beautiful office which is, for me, the best place to take nap in our campus. If you have any question, please feel free to drop by and talk with us!
